The 2026 film adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, directed by Georgia Oakley and written by Diana Reed is a heart-felt timeless adaptation with its heart on its sleeve. Daisy Edgar-Jones, Esme Creed-Miles and George Mackay portray the Dashwood sisters beautifully.
This adaptation resonates deeply among family and lovers, pulling at the audience’s heart strings as we watch these beloved characters navigate unfamiliar and intense emotions.
The audience becomes immersed by this riveting story of romance and sisterhood as the outstanding actors and actresses deliver a charming and fresh retelling of Jane Austen’s classic novel.
A highlight of this film is the nuanced relationships, and vast emotions the characters explore throughout, coupled with gorgeous set locations, costumes and cinematography. It’s a delightful journey both visually and emotionally.
The sisters’ relationship is messy, tender, and tumultuous at times. They oftentimes butt heads and express their frustration towards one another, yet despite their quarrels, their earnest and devoted love for each other prevails.
We are given an emotionally intimate look into how these sisters approach love and grapple with the delicate vulnerabilities that come with said relationships. The relationships between lovers are multifaceted and unfold with great care and attentiveness. The film highlights the importance of earnestness and does this by showing us the dedication between lovers.
It’s difficult not to feel intertwined in this story as the world building is extensive and absorbing portraying the sensitivities or the time and a lady’s place in society.
In every scene you can see the high level of care and dedication that was put in to make the world that these characters live in come to life. I especially loved the ball room dance scenes which were full of colour, movement and drama.
This adaptation holds true to Jane Austen’s original emotional and amusing story all the while giving the story an invigorating and lively cinematic life. It reworks elements from the original story that brings new light to these cherished characters.
This adaptation is inviting to a new generation, showing that new life can be discovered in old texts and I highly recommend seeing this with your girlfriends.
